“Vert le fluvial” conference 2021: focus on new carbon-free energy vectors in Europe

Event

On Monday 13th december 2021, more than 240 persons were rounded for a new « Vert le fluvial » event dedicated to the energetic transition of the inland Waterway Transport (IWT) sector.

Operators, shippers, industrialists, scientists, representatives of local authorities and infrastructure managers have been mobilised to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

A challenge which is required the implementation of stronger and more coordinated actions in terms of technologies, energies, constructions, financing, regulations and services.

The conference was held both remotely and in person at Musée des Confluences (Lyon) due to the health crisis.
A whole-morning debate and exchanges which was the occasion to make an assessment of the mobilization of the sector more than 2 years after the first edition « Vert le fluvial ».
It was also the opportunity for the speakers to share their positive French and European experiences on new carbon-free energy vectors (Biogas, electricity, hydrogen…).

Political figures and experts speeches have allowed to grasp the challenges and ambitions of the Green Deal for Europe and to take stock of the scheduling of a roadmap at European level for the inland waterway sector.

The professional stakeholders and infrastructure managers (for inland waterways and ports) most committed to the energy transition have shared their pilot and inspiring initiatives.
